NSW SES Flood Evacuation Warning - Lower Hawkesbury downstream of Wisemans Ferry
What is happening:
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting major flooding along the Hawkesbury River (with an increase of predicted heights released 3.30pm today).
As a result, residents and visitors to these areas should take action now to prepare for flood impacts.
NSW SES is advising residents and visitors in low lying areas of the following locations that they should relocate to higher ground now due to possible inundation and to avoid isolation. Roads in the area will close over the coming hours/day and later evacuation may not be possible.
These areas include:
Gunderman
Laughtondale
Singletons Mill
Spencer
Lower Mangrove
Greengrove areas
Marlow
Wendoree
Bar Point
Low lying properties will experience impacts due to flash flooding and/or riverine flooding.
Storm and flood impacts may interrupt essential services such as electricity, phones, internet, water and sewerage.
People in these areas need to closely monitor weather and road closures and make informed decisions early based on individual circumstances.
A Flood Evacuation Order (advice to leave immediately) will be issued by the NSW SES if/when it is identified evacuations are essential for safety. Please follow the instruction of the NSW SES at that time.
Where to go if evacuation is required: Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements.
An evacuation center will be open if a Flood Evacuation Order is released.
What we are expecting:
Once floodwater begins inundating the area, road access may be cut. If you remain in the area after this time, you may become trapped and it may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you.
What you need to do:

• Lift possessions and important items above the predicted flood height.
• Take pets, essential items, warm clothes, medicines, insurance documents and valuables with you.
• Leave as early as possible to avoid restricted roads.
• Share this information with family, friends and neighbours and help others where possible.

NSW SES is directing people in low lying areas within the Lower Hawkesbury downstream of Wisemans Ferry areas to evacuate the high danger area by 10 am today.
Why we are directing people to evacuate -
Once flood water begins inundating the area road access water, sewerage, power, phones and internet may be lost. If you remain in the area you will be trapped and it may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you.
Where to go if Evacuation is required: Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements. If you are unable to, an evacuation centre has been set up at the following:

NSW SES MODERATE FLOOD BULLETIN No.01 - Lower Hawkesbury River
What is happening?
A surface trough and a developing East Coast Low has been producing heavy rainfall over the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley since Saturday morning with heavy rainfall forecast to continue through Sunday and Monday. This rain coupled with spills from Warragamba Dam will contribute to higher rises.
Riverine flooding is occurring along the Hawkesbury with moderate flooding likely along the Hawkesbury River at locations downstream of Wisemans ferry from Sunday, with further rises possible.
A Flood Watch is current for the Hawkesbury and Nepean, Upper Cox's, Colo and Macdonald Rivers.
What we are expecting:
The Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry may reach the moderate flood level (3.50 metres) during Monday. Further rises are possible, with forecast rainfall.
People in the following areas should prepare now
Gunderman
- Spencer
- Lower Mangrove
- Glenworth Valley
- Wendoree Park
- Marlow Bar Point
- Isolation for the above areas is likely so make any resupply trips you need now
- Roads in the area will close with out notice so consider your travel
- Low lying farmland may be affected, farmers are advised to monitor equipment and livestock prepare for local road closures along the Hawkesbury River

People in areas likely to be impacted by flooding in Lower Hawkesbury areas should prepare for potential isolation and possible evacuation of camp grounds.
People in areas likely to be impacted by flooding should consider:
- Refraining from driving or walking through flood water
- Road closures and flood isolation may impact on work, family and educational commitments
- Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, NSW SES Facebook Pages and Bureau of Meteorology website
- If your property is at risk of inundation, please raise moveable items, such as furniture, as high as possible onto benches or tables, placing electrical items on top
- If you are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so

What is happening?
FLOODING POSSIBLE FOR THE LOWER HUNTER AND CENTRAL COAST FROM MONDAY
During Sunday and into early next week, the heavy rainfall is expected to move across Sydney and the Blue Mountains towards the Central Coast and lower Hunter Valley. This may cause localised flash flooding and renewed and higher flooding along rivers where flood warning are current as well as bring flooding to parts of the Hunter and Central Coast.
A Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall has been issued for the Metropolitan, Illawarra and parts of Hunter and Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.
The weather system is expected to cause riverine flooding for the catchments listed from Sunday night. Flood Classes (minor) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.
What we are expecting:
From Lower Hunter to the Central Coast
Wollombi Brook and Lower Hunter River minor flooding
Newcastle
Central Coast minor flooding
Lake Macquarie minor flooding
Minor flood levels
Low-lying areas next to water courses are inundated. Minor roads may be closed, and low-level bridges submerged. In urban areas inundation may affect some backyards and buildings below the floor level as well as bicycle and pedestrian paths. In rural areas removal of stock and equipment may be required.
What you need to do:
People in areas likely to be impacted by flooding should:
- Never drive or walk through flood water
- Road closures and flood isolation may impact on work, family and educational commitments
- Monitoring emergency warnings and severe weather updates on local ABC radio, NSW SES Facebook Pages and Bureau of Meteorology website
- If your property is at risk of inundation, please raise moveable items to a safer level, such as furniture, as high as possible, placing electrical items at the top
- If you are advised by an emergency services officer to evacuate, please do so

Moderate to heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours has caused river level rises along the Paterson River and its upper tributaries.
Minor flooding is possible at Gostwyck from Monday morning.
Further rainfall is forecast into Monday and Tuesday, which may cause further river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored, and revised predictions will be provided as necessary.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for the Metropolitan, Illawarra, and parts of the Hunter and Central Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Minor flooding is possible along the Paterson River at Gostwyck.
The Paterson River at Gostwyck Bridge may reach the minor flood level (9.10 metres) around 04:00 am Monday morning. Further rises are possible.
What we are expecting:
At Gostwyk Bridge and surrounding areas:
• Low lying rural properties and roads may be affected. Farmers adjacent to the river should monitor and act accordingly.
• Low level causeway at Horne’s Crossing over the Allyn River maybe closed
At Paterson and surrounding areas
• Low lying rural properties and roads may be affected by flood waters. Farmers adjacent to the river should monitor and act accordingly.
What you need to do:
• Do not drive, ride or walk through flood water
• Farmers on low lying land close to rivers and creeks are urged to monitor livestock, pumps and other equipment. Waste and chemical containers should be located well above predicted flood levels.
• Residents of low lying areas near the river should keep an active watch on the flood waters.
• Keep in contact with your neighbours.

Moderate flooding is possible at Bulga from Monday evening, and minor flooding is possible at Maitland from late Monday morning.
Further rainfall is forecast during Monday into Tuesday, which may cause further river level rises. This situation is being closely monitored, and revised predictions will be provided as necessary.
What we are expecting:
Minor flooding is likely along Wollombi Brook at Bulga.
Wollombi Brook at Bulga is likely to exceed the minor flood level (3.00 metres) around 05:00 am Monday. River levels may reach the moderate flood level (3.70 metres) Monday evening. Further rises are possible.
Minor flooding is possible along the Lower Hunter River at Maitland.
The Hunter River at Maitland (Belmore Bridge) may reach the minor flood level (5.90 metres) around 09:00 am Monday. Further rises are possible.

Minor flooding is likely along Tuggerah Lake.
Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty is likely to exceed the minor flood level (0.90 metres) Monday afternoon. Water levels may reach near 1.10 metres around Tuesday morning, with minor flooding. Further rises are possible.
